KEY WEST, Fla. - Coast Guard crewmembers from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., aboard a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, rescued a 50-year-old Ukrainian man from the motor vessel Munin Explorer 100 miles west of Key West Tuesday.

Coast Guard search and rescue watchstanders at Sector Key West received notification at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday from crew aboard the Munin Explorer, a 180-foot Cypress flagged research ship, Vadym Karavayev was suffering from severe abdominal pain and needed immediate medical attention.

Coast Guard immediately responded by launching the MH-60 Jayhawk from Air Station Clearwater in order to medevac Karavayev. 

The aircrew arrived on scene with the Munin Explorer at 7:30 a.m. and hoisted Karavayev into the helicopter. The aircrew transported him to Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West, arriving at 8 a.m. where he was listed in stable condition.
