Coast Guard monitoring oil spill in Tampa Bay

TAMPA, Fla. - The Coast Guard is monitoring the cleanup of approximately 1,000 gallons of waste oil that spilled in the Port of Tampa at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after a vessel collision.

The tug Katherine Ann was pushing the 210-foot barge Crystal River when it collided with the moored tug Liberty at the dock near 2500 Causeway Blvd., in Tampa, around 11:30 a.m. The collision caused approximately 1,000 gallons of waste oil to spill in to the water.

The spill is contained and is being cleaned up by Diversified Environmental Services.

No injuries have been reported.

The Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
